Prompt 7: Noises Off

One motif that is prevalent in Noises Off is the repeating of lines by different characters.  It is most prevalent in the second act.  For instance, in Act Two, Tim is holding a whiskey bottle and money to which Lloyd has given him.  When Lloyd leaves and Poppy enters, Poppy asks if the money Tim is holding is for her then acknowledges the whiskey bottle by saying that Selsdon is hiding his boose backstage now.  These two lines get repeated multiple times by different characters.  I believe that this motif just adds to the farcical nature of the play and is intended to make it more humorous.
A tag line that I think encapsulates the driving force of the play is a line by Lloyd that he says in Act One: "And on we merrily go."  I think this makes up what keeps the play going.  It's also a somewhat ironic line, and not in a dramatic way, in that there are multiple interruptions and stops in the play within the play.  But the characters just keep going.
